Sr. MySQL DBA

The DBA will be responsible for the deployment, configuration, and ongoing management of a large database environment and is responsible to ensure a high level of performance, functionality and availability is maintained.

Responsibilities include:

•Install, patch and maintain all company databases MySQL
•Review all production schema changes
•Review changes to database design
•Design and implement backup and DR strategies
•Perform database tuning and performance monitoring
•Manage database and data security (including adherence to all PCI security requirements)
•Data interface protocols
•Create and maintain documentation and standards
•Capacity planning
•Provide on-call support
•Design and implement clustering and replication solutions
•Perform database upgrades
•Optimize existing databases
•Database performance and load testing
Work with developers to design and implement new database for large-scale social networking application
Establish/maintain procedures for maintenance and backups
Migrate existing MySQL database structure to new design that will revolutionize the web
Assist and mentor engineers regarding their erroneous ways of querying the database
Work closely with operations and QA to build and refresh test database

MINIMUM AND ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

•University degree in computer science or equivalent with substantial directly related work experience
•6+ years Database Administrator experience supporting a large 24/7 production (data centre) environment
•Expert level with MySQL on Linux (Red Hat a plus)
•Expert with creating logical and physical data models
•Proven ability to create, optimize and debug reliable scalable SQL
•Experience with performance tuning, sharding, backups and other database maintenance tasks
•Thorough understanding of Social Networking and Web 2.0 technologies
•Knowledge of Apache and Tomcat
•Ability to work effectively on multiple simultaneous tasks within a fast paced, high tech, team oriented environment
•Strong organizational, interpersonal, motivational & analytical skills
•Excellent written & verbal communication skills
•Ability to complete project tasks in a timely manner
•Knowledge of security practices and issues
•Ability to work in teams as well as on an individual basis
•Ability to create detailed documentation and processes
•Ability to pass on knowledge and train other staff members
•Ability to be on-call and work weekends/weeknights during scheduled and emergency maintenances
